Wait But Why by Tim Urban.

Tim explains high level concepts in an impossibly simple, approachable way that make sense to the layman and humanities buffs like me.

  • Uses a narrative structure which makes high concept ideas stick

  • Uses character-based explanations to connect them to our everyday lives

  • Uses charts and imagery liberally, helping reader retain more information

James does the hard work of gathering a wide range of new and old science on useful everyday things, like how to strop procrastinating and how to make better decisions. His style is different from Tim's, more clean-cut and straightforward, but his ability to convey high level abstractions in easily understandable ways is no less honed than Tim's.

If these are the Original Kings of Comedy, Seth can safely be called one of the Original Kings of Marketing. He's got enough bestsellers to allow a 5-year-old reach the gas pedal in a humvee, he has spoken everywhere and he dispenses bits of his bottomless well of wisdom every single day in his blog.

The Lefsetz Letter by Bob Lefsetz

You often hear about "the voice of a generation." Bob is the voice of many generations. In one article, he'll make you believe you were sitting in a music studio in the 70s, then lambaste today's hottest popstars for clinging to an outdated model of distribution and compensation.

  • Trademark conversational cadence is fun for a copywriter doing a lot of conservative work

  • Not afraid to say what's on his mind, refreshing

  • Sees things both ways, takes in both perspectives of argument and takes a pretty objective view of things that are happening

  • Argues for empathy and reason

Danielle gives a clear eye into the nebulous, hard-to-pin-down emotional, "feely" spaces that swirl around inside and sometimes prevent our brains from behaving the way we want them to. She helps make sense of the seemingly indecipherable, gives powerful suggestions for life and frequently inspires.
