Words have lives: the curious case of "buffalo"

You knew we couldn’t get too far in this daily blog rabbit hole without mentioning the remarkable case of "buffalo."

Would you believe me if I told you this here is a grammatically correct sentence?

Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo.

I’m just going to leave that here for now.

PS: Non - word nerds will dismiss this as a linguistic parlor trick, tossing it into the cheesy gimmick pile somewhere between bending a spoon and every time your uncle removes your little brother's nose. But that would be a grave injustice; it is so, so much more than that.


How in the world can you not love language after learning a truth as wacky and implausible as this?
